Bay Area Culture: An Introduction

The region’s gold was in fruit, and during the Gold Rush era as people flooded into a San Francisco where fresh produce was a scarcity, a single apple imported into the city sold for a dollar. Think about it this way: $1 in 1850 is equivalent in purchasing power to about $42 today. 30 apples in 1850 San Francisco cost around the same as a pretax 🍎 iPhone 17 in 2026.

Google My Maps: Murals Maps

Murals tell a story about the very place they’re located. They create opportunities for social interaction, inviting people to reflect on the past, engage in the present, and consider the potential of something better in the future.

Here are links to three of the many Mural Maps I’ve created and presented in recent years. Have fun exploring!
